Orange Koulourakia

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2lb. 7oz. flour

  • 3 cups GEVOO

  • ½ cup almond milk

  • ½ cup fresh orange juice

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • 2 teaspoons baking powder

  • 2 cups organic sugar

  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

  • 2 tablespoons red wine (optional)

    TO TOP:

  • 1 egg

  • 3 tablespoons mineral water

  • 3 tablespoons sesame


METHOD:

  • Preheat oven to 340°F

  • Sift flour together with baking powder and cinnamon.

  • In a large mixing bowl, add GEVOO, sugar, and mix well. Gradually begin to add the flour and knead (dough should be soft, not sticky)

  • Combine baking soda and orange juice, stir well until froth occurs. Pour to mixture.

  • Add almond milk (red wine optional)

  • Shape cookies into whatever shape you fancy

  • Place shaped cookies on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

  • Brush each cookie with the egg wash (1 egg beaten with 1 tablespoon of water). Sprinkle with sesame seeds, if desired.

  • Bake for 15-20 minutes.
